Broil King Imperial Gas Grills Review

The Broil King Imperial Series contains the company’s premium grills. There are three models in the Imperial series which we’ll analyze in this review and which you can easily compare in the table below.

Cooking Performance & Features

The number of primary burners and power output of the Broil King Imperial gas grills varies across the three models as follows:

  • four stainless-steel primary burners generating 50,000 BTUs on the Broil King Imperial 490 gas grill,
  • five stainless-steel primary burners generating 55,000 BTUs on the Broil King Imperial 590 gas grill and
  • six stainless-steel primary burners generating 60,000 BTUs on the Broil King Imperial XL gas grill.

All of the Imperial grills also feature a 10,000 BTUs side burner, useful for preparing side dishes or more cooking at the same time. The grills also come equipped with a 15,000 BTUs stainless steel rear rotisserie burner and a premium rotisserie kit, which is a great feature opening more cooking options.

All the models are generating an impressive amount of power and while the power output is not a direct indication of a grill’s cooking performance, it is a helpful measurement of its potential. The numbers of the Imperial gas grills series are able to satisfy even the most demanding cooking needs.

Operating the grills and ignition are super-easy with the front mounted control panel and electronic ignition system.

If you need a lot of cooking space, a Broil King Imperial gas grill is an excellent grilling option. The largest model, the Imperial XL grill features two cook boxes offering a total of 750 sq.in. cooking space and 250 sq.in. porcelain-coated warming rack.

All the Broil King Imperial gas grills also come equipped with a 10,000 BTUs commercial grade side burner and a 15,000 BTUs stainless steel rotisserie burner. A premium rotisserie kit is also included.

The side shelves are made of stainless-steel, useful for storing items while cooking and also have small hooks for keeping your barbecue tools at hand.

Grilling at night is not a problem as the grills come equipped with built-in oven lights.

Fuel

The Broil King Imperial gas grills are available as natural gas or liquid propane fueled units. Natural gas fueled models have a great advantage as you don’t need to worry about refilling the tank and are quickly becoming a popular alternative.

Construction

Equipped with many primary burners and a large cooking space, the exterior dimensions and weight of these grills are pretty serious. Even if they are not really portable, all the grills are equipped with heavy-duty locking casters which help in moving your machine to the desired position.

The grill is constructed extremely well, and it’s built to last. The stainless steel housing prevents rust and wear as do the stainless steel cooking grates and burners. Every part of the Broil King Imperial looks solid and reliable.

Help & Support

The Broil King Imperial gas grills are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty which covers the cast aluminum components for lifetime, the burners for ten years and all the remaining parts and paint are covered for two years. This isn’t the best warranty program we have seen in the industry, but Broil King stands proudly behind their grills and considering the quality materials used you are probably going to be grilling without any problems on your Broil King equipment.

If in need for help, you can easily find it on the Broil King website. On the company website you can find product specifications, user manuals and a useful F.A.Q. section which even contains video answers to your most common questions. You can always contact customer support for additional questions. We were pleased with the friendly and informative interaction we had with the customer support team of Broil King.

Summary

Broil King Imperial gas grills are excellent grilling machines. With plenty of power, lots of space, features and a solid construction, the Broil King Imperial gas grills are surely going to meet the needs of the most demanding griller.

Gas Grill Buying Guide

So are you looking for a new gas grill? Whether you are a grill enthusiast and already know what you are looking for or this is your first grill, we have gathered a lot of information for helping you make an informed decision.

Price

When purchasing grills the rule that says “You get what you pay for!” is true. Looking online or at your local department or hardware store you may find gas grills in the low price range of $150 to $300. However you should know that depending on the construction quality, features, brand and more, gas grills can even run over $10,000. So you should decide approximately what your price range is. There are hundreds of grills on the market each year, so you should also know a little about the usual features provided. We have gathered a lot of information in our Grill Equipment Reviews section which can really help you in deciding exactly what it is you are looking for in your grill. We are continuously adding new grills and trying to be as objective as possible in our reviews.

Fuel

Gas grills come as liquid propane fueled units or gas fueled units. Most of the grills from the reliable brands come with either configuration, but once chosen you can not change your fuel source. Some models may permit mounting of conversion kits, but on some the manufacturer clearly specifies such kits are not provided for security reasons. We advise that you consider your options before purchasing. Lately natural gas fueled units are becoming more popular as they have the advantage of not running out of fuel. In the long run, natural gas will cost you less and will save you trips to the gas station each time the gas tank depletes. However, if your location does not permit connecting to a natural gas line, you’ll have to go with an LP fueled grill.

Construction Quality

The material the grill is made of is very important. The main body of the grill is usually made from cast aluminum, sheet metal, cast iron or stainless steel. Stainless steel is the preferred material of professional cooking equipment and the most expensive, but not all stainless steel is created equally. One thing to watch for is not just the body, but also the frame. There are many “stainless steel” grills that have painted steel frames that can rust. Stainless steel is very resistant to rust and heavy conditions so your grill should last for a long time. You can and should also buy a cover for your grill. You can find covers created especially for your grill model. Covers are great for protecting your grill when it is not in use from heavy weather condition, prolonging its life. A well taken care of grill can last a long time.

Size

Depending on the kinds of things you want to cook on your grill and for how many people you are usually cooking for, you will have to choose the right cooking space of your grill.

However, cooking space on gas grills is limited by the overall size of the grill. So if you are planning to install your gas grill on a small limited patio, the cooking space on smaller, compact-size grill is somewhat limited. That doesn’t mean cooking performance of smaller grills is diminished, but you will not be able to cook a lot in the same time.

Cooking Performance

The amount of heat a grill can generate is an important factor. However, cooking performance does not only depend on the number of BTUs a grill can generate. Other important factors are the material of which the cooking box is made of and the cooking grates material. You should also consider, that larger gas grills need more power for heating up, while smaller gas grills can have a good cooking performance with a lower BTU number. Also, lots of power means larger fuel consumption.

Features

It is true that adding features to your grill, ads up to the total price. If you are new to grilling, you might think that basic functions are enough, but as you become more experienced the need for extra features may come.

Here are some extra features usually found on gas grills:

  • Temperature gauge – situated on the lid, it indicates how hot your oven is. It is an useful feature found on most of the grills. However, for perfect cooking, a special thermometer is needed.
  • Side burner – an extra burner on the side of grill used for cooking more at once. It can accommodate saute pans as well as sauce pans and may come in handy for creating side dishes or sauces, while allowing you to conveniently complete cooking process at one time in one place.
  • Rotisserie burner – an extra burner to be used with the rotisserie kit. Some of the grills come equipped with both, while some provide the rotisserie kit as optional. If the grill comes equipped with the burner, you can buy the extra kit at a later time.
  • Lights – more expensive grills feature lights which make grilling at night significantly easier. However, if your grill doesn’t come with mounted lights you can find them as accessories.
  • Smoker box – special compartment near the cooking surface for adding chips of wood for extra flavors.
  • Grease pan – situated under the cooking space, it collects grease which is not vaporized. Once collected the pans are easily disposed and replaced.
  • Tool hooks – usually situated on the side tables are useful for keeping your grill tools close.

As choosing a good grill may seem complicated, an easy choice would be to simply go for a brand name. There are reliable brands on the market which have been making grills for a long time and take pride in their products. Brand names have replacement parts, warranty and customer support.

As a final thought, a good quality gas grill is a joy to use, but doesn’t make you a great cook. Practice and experience make great grilled foods.

For more information please consult our gas grills reviews and our grill knowledge section for great grilling tips.

Happy Grilling!

Lighting a Gas Grill

Lighting a gas grill is an easy process. However, as gas grill operation may vary, please consult the owner’s manual that came with your grill before starting using it.

Lighting A Gas Grill

To light a gas grill, first open the lid so that gas fumes don not collect in the cooking box.

Lighting A Gas Grill

Slowly open the valve on your propane tank or natural gas line all the way and wait for a minute so that the gas travels trough the gas line.

Lighting A Gas Grill

Depending on the model, you may need to turn the knob to High/Start and then click the ignition button to light each burner individually. As it might vary, please consult your manual for proper instructions.

Lighting A Gas Grill

Close the lid and preheat the grill for 10 to 15 minutes.

Lighting A Gas Grill

Once the temperature reaches about 500°F, use a long-handled grill brush to clean the cooking grates. Then simply adjust the appropriate burners to the suggested method and temperature in the recipe.

Broil King Monarch Gas Grills Review

Created by the well known company in North America, the Monarch gas grills are well-built simple grilling machines. The Monarch series has two models, the Monarch 340 and the Monarch 320, which we’ll analyze in this review and whose features you can easily compare in the table below.

Cooking Performance & Features

The three primary burners of the Broil King Monarch gas grills can generate up to 30,000 BTUs. The amount of power is low compared to other grills, but is close to the power generated by other grills with a similar, not very large, size. Having a low number of BTUs has its advantage in the amount of gas used and if the cooking space is enough for your needs, it is really not a problem.

In addition to its primary burners, a stainless-steel 10,000 BTUs side burner is available on the Monarch 340 gas grill. It is large enough to accommodate saute pans as well as sauce pans and may come in handy for creating side dishes or sauces, while allowing you to conveniently complete cooking process at one time in one place.

The primary cooking area of the Broil King Monarch gas grills is 350 sq. in. and the warming rack area measures 170 sq.in. The total cooking area of 500 sq.in. is pretty small and if you are hosting a large backyard barbecue party, your guests might have to wait longer for their food to be done. Similar size alternatives, but with a little more cooking space would be the Weber Spirit gas grills or the Broil King Signet gas grills.

The cooking grates are made of heavy-duty cast iron. Cast iron retains heat very well, so you’ll be able to get those beautiful sear marks on your steak.

Fuel

The Broil King Monarch gas grills are available as natural gas or liquid propane fueled units. Natural gas fueled models have a great advantage as you don’t need to worry about refilling the tank and are quickly becoming a popular alternative.

Construction

Each of the Broil King Monarch gas grills feature a rust proof cast aluminum cook box, powerful Dual-Tube burners and durable stainless steel components. The grills also come with stylish chrome painted steel drop-down side shelves with integrated tool hooks and a door designed for easy access to the propane tank.

The lid on the Broil King Monarch series is made of aluminum with a stainless steel insert. The stainless steel insert is resistant to rust, and the aluminum helps make this gas grill very light. It only weighs 95 pounds, which is one of the lightest gas grills we reviewed. It’s also quite small, measuring 59 inches high (with the lid open), 54 inches wide and 22 inches deep. The low weight and the 7″ wheels with decorative grey accent and 2.5″ locking casters makes moving the grill into the right spot a breeze.

Help & Support

If in need for help, you can easily find it on the Broil King website. On the company website you can find product specifications, user manuals and a useful F.A.Q. section which even contains video answers to your most common questions. You can always contact customer support for additional questions. We were pleased with the friendly and informative interaction we had with the customer support team of Broil King.

The Monarch Gas Grills are covered by a Lifetime Warranty on the Therma-Cast aluminium oven, 5 years on the stainless steel Dual-Tube burner system and 2 years on all remaining parts and paint.

Summary

If you don’t have a lot of space, or if you are going to move your grill around a lot, then the Broil King Monarch gas grills might be your best option. It has a lightweight frame and a small footprint. This compact gas grill doesn’t have a lot of firepower, but it will work fine for a small gathering or a family dinner. However, if your planning on hosting large barbecue parties, then you might want to check out some of the larger gas grills available.

Broil King Signet Gas Grills Review

Some of the company’s most popular gas grills, the Broil King Signet Series offers a decent amount of power and cooking space with reduced dimensions. There are three models available in the Signet Series which we’ll analyze in this review and which you can easily compare in the table below.

Cooking Performance & Features

The three primary burners on the Broil King Signet gas grills can generate up to 40,000 BTUs and the side burner can push up to 10,000 BTUs. Even if this amount of power might seem low compared to other grills, it will get the job done using less fuel. This grill also features a Sure-Lite electronic ignition system, which makes starting up the grill easy.

The Signet 70 and Signet 90 also feature a rotisserie kit, an impressive feature which will open up more cooking options.

Cooking space on the Broil King Signet gas grills is good, but it could be better. You will have 400 square inches of primary cooking area on this gas grill, along with 235 inches of warming rack space. This area is typical of Broil King grills, and while it’s not as much as several other competitors offer, it should still provide you ample room to grill several items at a time.

This gas grill also has a built-in temperature gauge that allows you to monitor heat while cooking, along with side shelf space for storing condiments, silverware and other grilling necessities.

Fuel

The Broil King Signet gas grills are available as liquid propane or natural gas fueled units. This fuel versatility is great in a grill, especially as today, natural gas grills are becoming more popular. Once installed, you no longer have to worry about gas level and trips to the gas station for filling the depleted propane tank.

Construction

The construction of the Broil King Signet gas grill is good. The cook box is made of aluminum and the burners, cabinet doors and side shelves are made of stainless steel, resistant to rust and wear. The other components are made of rust resistant zinc coated steel. The cooking grates are made of sturdy porcelain-coated cast iron. Weighing in about 138 pounds, this isn’t the heaviest grill we reviewed, but it isn’t especially mobile either. However, it can be moved into the right place using the 7″ wheels with decorative grey accent and 2.5″ locking casters. The Signet gas grills are a little smaller than other grills, though, measuring 48 inches tall and 57 inches wide.

The Monarch Gas Grills are covered by a Lifetime Warranty on the Therma-Cast aluminium oven, five years on the stainless steel Dual-Tube burner system and two years on all remaining parts and paint. The warranty period might have been longer as in other grills.

Summary

The Broil King Signet gas grills offer pretty much all of the basics necessary for the backyard cooker. The three primary burners provide a good amount of power and there is decent cooking space available. Construction quality is good and the grill should last a long time. However, we would choose the Signet 70 or Signet 90 models for the 15,000 stainless steel rear rotisserie burner which provides more cooking options.

Broil King Regal Pro Gas Grills Review

Cooking Performance & Features

All the Broil King Gas Grills models have four primary burners. The powerful set of burners can generate up to 55,000 BTUs. As mentioned in our other articles, BTUs are not a direct measure of a grill’s performance but it is an indicator of how fast a grill can get hot and how hot it can get. The amount of power, the Broil King Gas Grills can generate is impressive. You can be sure it will get hot fast and stay hot. Please keep in mind, that with high power also comes a higher fuel consumption.

A 10,000 BTUs side burner is also available on all models – great for cooking side dishes. All the burners are easily controlled from the front-mounted control panel and the electronic ignition system makes sure the grill is ready when you are.

The stainless-steel rear rotisserie burner is one of the best features available. It is ideal for cooking spit-roasted chicken and other unique barbecue items.

Stainless steel is the main material used in the construction of this grill, making it resistant to rust and wear. The cooking grates are porcelain-coated cast iron – an ideal material for those who wish to keep their grills neat and tidy. The porcelain coating keeps residue off the grating while helping to provide the trademark grill sear that every backyard cooker hopes to achieve.

The dense material make the grills pretty heavy, weighting approximately 185 pounds. Even so, moving the grill in the right position is easy using the heavy-duty locking swivel casters.

Help & Support

All the Broil King Gas Grills come with a Lifetime Warranty on the cast aluminium components, 10 years on stainless steel Dual-Tube™ burner system and 2 years on all remaining parts and paint. This is a nice warranty and should make you feel safe in your purchasing decision.

While not everything is about lots of BTUs, the numbers indicate how much power we can expect from a grill and how much fuel it is likely to consume during use. With a total power of up to 107,000 BTUs on the M730RSBI model it is more than enough even for the most demanding cooking needs.

The Napoleon Mirage gas grills are some of the few mid-range gas grills we have reviewed that feature a rear infrared burner. This is a great option and opens new possibilities in grilling. The ceramic infrared rear rotisserie burner is capable of generating between 13,500 BTUs and 16,000 BTUs. This type of burner is able to create intense heat spread evenly over a small area. Use it with the Napoleon rotisserie kit for tasteful juicier roasted meals.

The side burner available on some of the models is able to generate between 11,000 BTUs and 12,500 BTUs, is large enough to accommodate saute pans as well as sauce pans and may come in handy for creating side dishes or sauces, while allowing you to conveniently complete cooking process at one time in one place.

All the Napoleon Mirage gas grills feature an electronic ignition system – the Jetfire ignition system – which lights the burners by igniting a jet of gas. Electronic ignitions are very efficient at getting a flame going, but they also require a battery, which needs to be replaced occasionally.

The smallest model – the Napoleon Mirage M485RB – offers a 485 sq.in. primary cooking surface and a 245 sq.in. warming rack area. The largest model – the Napoleon Mirage M730RSBI – provides a 730 sq.in. primary cooking area and a 295 sq.in. warming rack area. Even with the smallest one, the cooking area is enough for great backyard barbecues.

The integrated ice bucket with cutting board on the side shelf is a nice feature. Flip the lid of the side shelf over and you have a sturdy cutting surface. Under the lid, there’s a space for adding ice where you can keep your drinks cold or keep your burgers until you are ready for grilling. Even if this type of features don’t improve cooking quality, it adds some little extra help and sets Mirage grills from other grills.

The front-mounted control panel features back-lit control knobs for late night entertaining. The blue LED lights provide a discreet, futuristic look. Additional light can be provided with the optional halogen light which can be attached to the side of the unit.

Fuel

The Mirage gas grills are available as liquid propane or natural gas fueled units. A 10-feet flexible hose is included with the natural gas fueled units. For LP fueled ones, the 20-lb. propane tank is not included. This fuel versatility is great in a grill, especially as today, natural gas grills are becoming more popular. Once installed, you no longer have to worry about gas level and trips to the gas station for filling the depleted propane tank.

Construction

The Napoleon Mirage gas grills are constructed from high grade stainless steel (304 stainless) and are not only looking great but also very resistant to corrosion, water and temperature. The lid, side shelf and cabinet doors are also made of stainless steel, which means that your grill will last a very long time. Stainless steel is a very durable material – it will not rust, and it resists damage from food and cleaning.

With the lid closed, the Mirage gas grills have a maximum size of 50 inches high, 76 inches wide and 27 inches deep. Not very bulky, but not small either, the Napoleon Mirage grills won’t take up a lot of room on your deck or porch. The Mirage grills also weighs 180 pounds, but feature heavy-duty casters on the bottom, so you can easily maneuver them around, if needed.

Weber Summit Grills Review

Weber is a trustworthy and reliable name in the grill marketplace, making grills since 1950. The company continuously makes efforts in improving and innovating. The Weber Summit Grills are no exception, with a modern design, powerful grilling capabilities and lots of features the Weber Summit Gas Grills are excellent products.

The new Weber Summit Series features ten different models (E-420, E-470, E-620, E-670, S-420, S-470, S-620, S-670, S-460, S-660) which we’ll discuss in this review and the differences in features can be easily compared in the table below.

Cooking Performance & Features

The Weber Summit Gas Grills are equipped with four or six primary burners (depending on the model), capable of generating from 48,800 BTUs up to 60,800 BTUs. Even if this power is not the highest in the grills we have reviewed, the Summit grills are among the most powerful gas grills available.

A high BTU number does not equal high quality cooking, but it is an indication of how much heat a gas grill can generate. Also, please keep in mind that a high BTU number also means more gas used.

The heating power is maximized by the sear station burner and the side burner, available only on some of the Weber Summit Grills (please see the table below). The sear station burner generates up to 10,600 BTUs and is designed to step-up heat on demand and can sear meat to seal in juices while making the outer layers tasty and crisp. The side burner is capable of 12,000 BTU, is large enough to accommodate saute pans as well as sauce pans and may come in handy for creating side dishes or sauces, while allowing you to conveniently complete cooking process at one time in one place.

Both the primary burners and the side burner use Weber’s Snap-Jet electronic ignition system to get the party started as quickly as possible.

The Summit E-470, E-670, S-470 and S-670 models also provide a 10,600 BTUs rear-mounted infrared rotisserie burner and a tuck-away rotisserie system with flip-up motor and separate spit and fork storage in the enclosed cart.

Cooking grates are made of stainless steel, which are easy to clean, retain heat very well and make lovely sear marks.

The stainless-steel Flavorizer bars are also present in the Summit Grills, directing juices away from the burners while generating the smoke flavor and preventing excessive flare-ups.

The primary cooking area of the Summit grills varies from 468 sq. in. to 693 sq. in. This is the largest primary cooking area of any grill in our reviews. The cooking space is completed by the warming rack area (112 to 145 sq. in.) which allows for keeping things hot and ready for serving.

If you’re planning a big barbecue party and you do not want your guests to wait for their burgers while others are already being served, the Weber Summit grills are the ones you should be looking for.

One of the great features of this grill is its handy Grill Out handle light. The little box unit on the center of the handle has a tilt sensor that will turn on the light when you lift the lid. Now you can grill at night without any problems.

Fuel

All the Weber Summit models can be fueled by natural gas or liquid propane. Natural gas fueled models have a great advantage as you don’t need to worry about refilling the tank. However, please consider carefully when choosing natural gas or liquid propane versions, as once purchased that is the only fuel you can use. For safety reasons, Weber does not offer adapters for changing fuel type.

All the liquid propane fueled Weber Summit grills feature an LED tank scale letting you know when it’s time for a refill. Simply touch the button and a light will indicate how full your tank is.

Construction

With the lid open, the Weber Summit gas grills measure 57 inches high, 66 inches wide and 30 inches deep – the smallest model and  57 inches high, 74 inches wide and 30 inches deep – the largest model.
The option of incorporating your Weber grill in your kitchen/ furniture is also available with the Weber Summit S-460 and S-660 models. The large cooking space and available features make the Summit grill bulkier and heavier than other models. However, if the space is not an issue and you don’t plan to move the grill around very often, the Summit Grills may be the right choice.
Built with high quality materials and thoroughly tested by Weber to make sure they can stand up to extreme weather conditions such as high heat and salty sea air, your Weber grill will be with you for a long time.
